With only one teaser trailer for the 2023 Little Mermaid, it remains to be seen how similar this update will be to the Disney original. But we also found some behind-the-scenes production photos that give us a little more insight about our favorite beach scene.
For the live action remakes that have premiered in theaters or on Disney +, we know that there are a lot of similarities to the originals - and some major changes. In Pinocchio, Disney replaced beer with root beer and gave a character a song they didn’t have before, but they kept the heart of the movie the same.
Mulan might be the most different from it’s original - changing the genre from a musical comedy to a martial arts epic. But the creators still found ways to pay homage to the original film with exciting easter eggs like a Ming-Na Wen cameo.
We also loved the similarities for Lady and the Tramp and the killer new joke in 2019’s Hakuna Matata, plus we’ve got a theory about how a noticeable change in Aladdin might not be much of a change after all.
