Welcome back to another comic book review series on Toned In Entertainment
Today we’re going to look at what happens when you combine 2 of pop cultures most disgusting franchises of all time into series will it be some good gross out fun or will you realize your mom was always right when she said you shouldn’t play with either of these franchises.
The only way to find out is to get on with my 4 issue comic book series review from Dynamite Comics Madballs Vs GarbagePail Kids
As we kick off Issue 1 we’re going to see that there’s a main story as well as a secondary story. This will Continue in Issue 2 and Issue 3. And when we get to Issue there will be a double header of the main story that will wrap up everything. For this review I’m going to go over the main story than the secondary stories and even talk about the little bonuses that are thrown here as well
As Issue 1 kicks off we meet a lovely family of 4 called the SnobbE’s made up of dad Ted, Mom Tina and kids Tucker and Tiffany
The secondary story here is called Redicuosly Extreme Sports, where we’ll see how sports were played if they were held under the rules of The Madballs and the GarbagePail Kids
From white water rafting, to baseball, skateboarding and my personal favorite Extreme Go Fish there’s just a lot of fun moments to be had here with no real winner being declared, only the two sides learning a lesson that extreme sports might just in fact be dangerous after all.
Now having a good neighbor is a Wonderfull thing, but what happens when you have a neighbor or in this case neighbors who think that you would enjoy their music as much as they do well that’s going to lead us into the story called Band Slammed
While Tina is relieved at least temporarily that they might have found an Ally in this situation, her moment of happiness will quickly fade away when all this will end up doing is creating more noise as a battle of the bands breaks out.
There is another secondary story here in Issue 2 called Madball Science
As we dive into Issue 3 we have two stories once again and it starts off with a story called BLOCK BUSTED.
But when Tim realizes that his neighbor Roy has invited both the Madballs and the Garbage Pail kids to the picnic not only will Tim find himself in the middle of a food fight but he’ll be wishing he might have focused a little more on his athletic skills when Kim Kong wants to play.
Overall this is a fun and wacky story where the art by Jason Crosby really tells they story. Once again in the middle of the chaos we’ll continue to see the bond between Horned and Scary Carrie continue to grow stronger.
The second story here in Issue 3 is called Disorder In The Court
Now a common complaint in court cases would be Causing a public nuisance but in this world the Garbage Pail Kids and the Madballs are in court for the purpose of Removing a public nuisance.
Growing up I remember watching an episode of the 3 stooges where the judge would say Order in the court and someone would proceed to order food so I guessed that this joke would be in here and it is however writer Sholly Fisch does throw the joke in here however its nice that she has the judge say “And No More Old Jokes Either”
As we head into the 4th and final issue of this series were going to meet some new friends and also get insight as to why these 2 sides have decided to be rivals instead of allies
We start off with the story called Family Feud where the garbage pail kids are coming from dumpsters and landfills from all around the country for the big family reunion.
Just to name a few of the guests that are arriving from both parties we’ll see Run Down Rhonda , Double Heather , Electric Bill and Mona Loser from the Garbage Pail kid side of the family and from the Madballs we’ll see Wolf Breath , Snake Bait , Swine Sucker , Brain Bash and Fist Face
Now as far as why the 2 sides don’t get along we’re going to have Brainy Jane explain that it all dates back to an interaction between Wrinkled Rita and one of the MAdballs
Now the final story is going to wrap up everything here in this series called More Family Feud
And a far as where the whole feud started in the first place it appears that it was just one big misunderstanding, because the Madball that Wrinkled Rita was try to have a conversation with was a Lockup who couldn’t talk if he wanted to.
On a scale of 1-10 I’m going to give the series Madballs Vs Garbage Pail Kids a 9 out of 10
The creators really did an exceptional job of blending these two franchise together and just really providing a lot of laughs in a very entertains story. Plus I really like the fact that they also played off the old garbage pails kids cars where they would have 2 names and that’s included here with Scary Carrie where one of the Madballs actually thought her name was Creepy Carol
