Crafting the perfect ending for a movie is no easy task. Every Disney writer knows this. Turning Red saw one charming moment cut where Mei meets one of the members from 4*Town. But also, there was a giant panda battle across Toronto. But also, at one point the panda wasn’t the problem, it was more about what kind of panda she wanted to be! A party panda? Encanto had a heartbreaking ending that led Mirabel and Abuela back to the home they had to abandon. Luca almost included sea monsters far scarier than Uncle Ugo! Soul had a ton of different potential endings. It makes sense, this movie was all about choices. Raya and the Last Dragon contemplated the movie just being Raya and no more dragons. Toy Story 4 almost saw Bo Peep break up with Woody. And before the first Toy Story got off the ground, Woody was a creepy ventriloquist doll! Frozen 2 almost saw Arendelle wiped out. Cars 3 would have paved way for Cars 4 but turns out they could fit that beat in the same script! The first draft of Coco would have seen Miguel go after someone much closer to him than his grandpa. Maui was upstaging Moana way too much. Frozen nearly saw an army of ice monsters thanks to some significant differences. The Lion King saw more flames. The Little Mermaid saw humans submerged underwater. Lilo and Stitch needed one scene completely changed after significant historical events shook the planet. Tarzan almost reversed its ending. The Jungle Book had a very dark ending with a grown-up Mowgli. If they never got past the first drafts of scripts, Disney would be an entirely different beast!
