Why Encanto Is Nothing Like Other Disney Movies (trauma in storytelling)

So, I recently watched Encanto (later than everyone on this website :'( ) and was taken aback by how different it is from most Disney movies. In a good way. Its ability to intertwine complex themes like trauma, the presentation of trauma, and the impact of a massive cultural tragedy, sets it apart from its contemporaries that have come before it. Its careful consideration of these factors in its character development, design and plot is also contributes to its uniqueness. In order to explain why I think this, what a great movie it is, and how I'll never be able to compare to Luisa's killer dance moves, I analyze the movie's use of trauma as a tool of storytelling. Specifically, intergenerational trauma; a core aspect of the film that made it resonate so deeply with Columbians, non-Columbians, immigrant children, people from collectivist cultures, and just audiences who saw themselves (or their family) in the members of the Madrigal family. Also, side note: I haven't been able to stop singing, "SEVEN FOOT FRAME, RATS ALONG HIS BACK WHEN HE CALLS YOUR NAME IT ALL FADES TO BLACK WHEN HE SEES YOUR DREAMS FEAST ON YOUR SCREAMS" since I saw this movie.
