15 Disney Scenes That Were Completely Improvised

We don’t typically think of animated films as movies that would have much improvisation, but it turns out some of the best Disney scenes were born of ad-libs! We’re going through some of the best ad-lib moments in our favorite Disney films; animated and live-action!
Remember the scene where Aladdin and the Genie meet the royals when Aladdin is posing as Prince Ali? It’s pretty authentically awkward, spontaneous and hilarious… and that’s because it was improvised from start to finish. Then there was the scene where LeFou tried to calm Gaston down by whispering words of violence and battle - yea, definitely not the original Disney script!
Josh Gad did loads of improvising when recording his role as Olaf in Frozen… and he was actually surprised to see how many made the cut! The team knew they’d struck gold and included many ad-libs. How about Seth Rogen as Pumbaa riffing with hilarious one-liners that made the cut? He and Billy Eichner made a stellar team recording the dynamic duo of Timon and Pumbaa - their first rehearsal was actually improvising the whole film! Timon’s zingers were nothing short of comic genius - and all spontaneously came from the Eichner!
Robin Williams made history with his performance as the Genie in Aladdin - it was an incredible character and Williams was actually responsible for about 80-90 percent of the dialogue. There were actually about sixteen hours worth of extra recordings from Williams!
Remember Marlin’s bumbling joke delivery in Finding Nemo? That was not scripted - a full day of takes were done and the joke wasn’t performed the same way once!
