Look, being an animator is challenging. Think how much work it takes to make the background of a single scene. Yeah, it’s not easy. Indeed, taking a character design from another movie makes things more manageable and creates this cool crossover event hidden in detail. I mean, if I was a background animator, I’d want people studying my work for easter eggs. How else is it going to get appreciated?
This reason and the fact crossovers are cool is why we see so many Disney characters sneak into other scenes. We all know it’s fantastic to see the spinning wheel from Sleeping Beauty in Tangled, and Ms. Potts and Chip appear in Tarzan. They’re these subtle reminders of all the work that’s come before the film we’re watching, and sometimes a peek into the future.
