    To celebrate their 70th Anniversary, I take a look at the history and evolution of SNOOPY, CHARLIE BROWN and the entire PEANUTS gang, vibrantly melancholy creations of cartoonist Charles M Schulz.
    First published in American newspapers in 1950, spawning from an earlier strip — Li’l Folks, the Peanuts comic strip exploded into the world-wide spotlight in the middle-60s with tens of millions of readers, spawning a mass merchandising craze and an expansive multi-media franchise, consisting of over 50 specials, films and television series and numerous stage productions. In its wake, Peanuts has left an enormous impact on popular and social culture, with TV Guide calling the specials “the greatest TV cartoons of all time.”
    I trace the entire history of Schulz’s strip and its translation into the cartoon medium – spotlighting changes made to narrative presentation and visual design over the last seven decades.
