To celebrate the release of the MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL and the era that inspired it, I present my ranking of the movies of Disney's Silver Age Era in order of my own personal preference from best to worst.
The Disney Silver Age spans the entire breadth of creative output at Walt Disney Animation between 1950 to 1967 and saw a return to the classic fairy-tale and storybook storytelling of the early classics – delivering some of the Disney canon’s most magical, memorable and beloved stories and characters. However, it would also be hallmarked by two distinct kinds of films – epic, gorgeously exuberant and technologically innovative masterpieces, many with large budgets and poor commercial performance; and artistically unattractive cult classics – stemming from Walt’s lack of attention to detail (due to his distraction with Disneyland, television and live action features), and cost-cutting methods such as the introduction of the Xerox process.
