Mulan is a United States period war action drama film by Niki Caro with a screenplay by Elizabeth Martin, Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and processed by Walt Disney Pictures. The film is a live-action remake of the 1998 animated film of the same name provided by Disney, the animated film itself is based on the Chinese legend Hua Mulan. The film stars Yifei Liu as an eponymous character, along with Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles. Plans to remake Mulan's live-action began in 2010, but the project never produced results. In March 2015, a new effort was announced and Caro was hired to be directed in February 2017. Liu played a title role in November 2017, following a casting call for 1,000 actresses and the remaining players joined the following year. Filming began in August 2018 and lasted until November, taking place in New Zealand and China. Mulani will be released on March 27, 2020 in the United States.
